During the Boshin War, Shigeto Nakamura was a Sukumo Warrior Chief and remained in the army after the Meiji restorantion. When the government announced the demolition of both Himeji and Nagoya Castles he announced that he was strongly against it.
After his brave action, the government decided to preserve the castles
as historical sites.
Unfortunately, Nagoya Castle suffered severe damage during World War II,but
without Nakamura's influence, Himeji Castle would not exist as a World
Heritage site today.
